My name is Fei Fei- I am blessed

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Hi I am Fei Fei, I was found by a kind lady, Veronica who took me to the vet to be sterilized and also to treat my ear which has been causing me much pain.

I think the wound looks hideous because when Veronica took me to another lady, Phyllis, I saw the look on her face. She was really shocked and I saw the pain in her eyes. she felt my pain.

I am by nature very affectionate. I love human touches and over at Aunt Phyllis home, I am cared for and loved. I allow them to clean my wound and apply medication without struggling. I try to be good, though it is a little stinging at times. I know that it is for my own good.

Getting better

Getting better

I heard Aunt Phyllis telling Mei Mei and Lah Lah that she wanted to take me to another vet for a second opinion. What’s a second opinion? Hmmm….. I think it will cost money. Veronica who feeds a lot of other community cats and helps a lot of elderly from her own pocket has already given much. Aunt Phyllis does not wish to burden her with more expenses.

I hope some kind donors will help me and provide me with a chance and hope of living a happy and healthy life.

If you wish to visit me, or help me in my medical treatment fees, kindly drop Aunt Phyllis an email at info@blessinghome.com

Thank you for helping me

Thank you!

Love, Fei Fei

Any donations in kind (in a crossed cheque) can be made payable to The Animal Doctors Pte. Ltd.

Updates

Fei Fei has gone to another vet for her second opinion. Now she is back at Blessing Home under the loving care of Mei Mei and Lah Lah. She is recovering and eating well. she has in fat gained a little weight.

Blessing Home would like to thank husband and wife, Nathan and Catherine for their generous support and most importantly, for giving Fei Fei hope.

As such, Fi Fi has been blessed and interested donors can contact me at info@blessinghome.com if they wish to bless other cats.

Thank you once again.

Phyllis

A haven for me…

Shadow is my name… and I have a story to tell.

Shadow in loving arms

Shadow in loving arms

Shadow was only a kitten about 4 months old when she was found by a Malay girl in Bedok. All his four paws were beaten till his bones were crushed. It was appalling that people could abuse such a helpless kitten.

It was brought to me in this condition and told to let him recover by himself. He was so badly injured that he could not stand to use the cat litter box. It was then I realized it was impossible for him to recover by himself.

I brought him to the vet and the X-ray showed that his four paws were badly injured. The vet suggested that surgery be done to the hind legs but leaving the front paws to recover on their own. Shadow needed a lot of nursing so I bought a cot to let him sleep next to me. I had to nurse him like a little baby.

It was very stressful because I had to constantly nurse him and worry about him not recovering.

It was only 8 months later, that he finally stood up and walked. I was absolutely elated.

He grew up to be a cheeky boy. His way of getting our attention to let him out is to do his big and small business on our bed. He has this way of sitting down like a ball.

Do I really look like a ball?

Do I really look like a ball?

Every time I see his deformed paws, I am both happy and sad. Happy that he has pulled through and sad that animal abuse is still rampant. He is still plagued by arthritis because of his injuries. Three years ago, I have started him on glucosamine to ease the pain in his joints.

look at my paws...

One thing for sure is that he is now in loving arms… a haven for him to call his home.

Do you know my story?

Blessing Home rescues abused strays and nurses them.

Do you know their stories? Here’s some to share…

I can't walk but I am loved~ Jem Jem

Jem Jem basking in the sun

Jem Jem was rescued by a male stray feeder in a factory in Ayer Rajah. Jem Jem was warded with a vet. Jem Jem has a huge wound in the backside and was treated with hydrogen peroxide which further aggravate the wound. The feeder wanted to put down Jem Jem.

When I approached Jem Jem, he was extremely affectionate to me and I was touched. I told the feeder that I would adopt him.

I took Jem Jem to another vet for a second opinion. Jem Jem gone through a second surgery with the second vet. His wound did not heal and the stitches gave way because there was not enough skin to cover the wound.

Someone recommended Jem Jem to go to a third vet for a review. The third vet told us not to be ‘a cat hoarder’. In other words, don’t expect a miracle to happen. Unless, Jem Jem was sent to Australia. I was affronted by the vet’s attitude and tone and took Jem Jem home with me.

Mei Mei and I started to treat Jem Jem on our own. Miracle did happen and the wound healed! A girlfriend of mine who was with us at the third vet wanted to to bring Jem Jem back to show him that a miracle had happened. I told her that it is not necessary as there is nothing to boast of except the kindness, determination and love of Mei Mei and myself.

I am loved cos' I am special

Though the hole in my pocket is much bigger than that on his backside after all the treatments. I feel great that it has helped to heal Jem Jem. Though Jem Jem lost the ability to use his hind legs, his fighting spirit continues to be an inspiration.

I am 14...and loved

I am 14...and loved- Mo Mo

Eye Mo Mo was picked up by a friend, C.S. The stray feeder used human eye medication on Mo Mo’s eyes. Mo Mo was brought to me 7 years ago and her eyes was infected and bleeding at times.

She used to be an extremely unfriendly cat. She hated medical attention and would scream at the top of her voice when other cats approached. I have been scratched by her for more than 50 times. But I have never given up on her. Never once.

Mo Mo eyes are still having bloody secretion. Love has touched Mo Mo, she is tamed and will response to me. At the age of 14, when I hear her cries, my heart will ache.

However, I am comforted by the fact that she knows she is loved.

Update: Mo Mo eyes are deteriorating and we are all trying to make her feel comfortable at Blessing Home.

You are my Sunshine

Friday, August 7th, 2009

One sunny day, it was inevitable that Sunshine entered my life. A pet transport man passed me a Shetland, asking me to provide it with a temporary home.

When he first entered my life

When he first entered my life

The temporary became, 7 years.

It was indeed an exceptional day, and from that day onwards, my life is filled with Sunshine. For 7 years, Sunshine has brought much happiness to our family. He was a handsome Shetland who is a protector, a companion and a friend in Blessing Home.

Sunshine is the guardian angel of Milo, the blind cat who passed away in 2006.

He also helps to nurse sick cats in Blessing Home by accompanying them and giving them a sense of security. He helps to discipline cats when they get too playful and is indispensable in searching or missing cats at home.

Although Sunshine is no longer as agile and active, he is still steadfast in his duties in blessing our home with his unconditional love.

In the beginning of June, Sunshine started vomiting. He was warded in Dr Cathy Chan’s Clinic. After diagnosed with gall bladder infection, he went through an ultrasound. The results showed that his gall bladder has exploded. It was indeed a devastating news. Sunshine went through a major surgery that lasted for 2 hours under the care of two doctors. He pulled through the surgery and came home after 9 days.

However, he is later diagnosed to be suffering from the initial stage of lung cancer and was only given a good 6 months to live. He might face kidney problems pending the blood test results.

Meanwhile, be it 6 months or 6 years, I will continue to love him as much as he love my family and I.

Sometimes I feel that time does not matter anymore. It is how I cherish the time I have with Sunshine and the memories of the love we shared that matters.

Moments to cherish

Phyllis

The beginning of Blessing Home…

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Blessing Home is started single-handedly by myself. Born out of a desire to provide love, gentle care and 24/7 shelter for animals.

My love for animals started way back when I was a child. I used to rescue dogs from factories and construction sites. In 1999, I started rescuing cats. From one foot in, it was not long before I realized, it was not just a foot nor both my feet, it was my life.

With no fixed sponsorship and a whole load of commitment, everyone said that I was biting off more than I could chew. Fortunately for me, I have my husband and two able helpers, Mei Mei and Lah Lah.

I am most blessed to have a loving husband, Jeffrey who loves to fish. While enjoying himself, he in turn, bless my cats. On days when he brings back a good catch, it has helped to lighten some of my food expense. And for my cats, it’s feast time!

Meanwhile, Mei Mei and Lah Lah, together with provide the human touch for all the animals in Blessing Home. It is not merely an investment of time and money. It is the emotional commitment that we give to our animals. We love them unconditionally and we care for them meticulously.

Blessed Hands @ Blessing Home

Blessed Hands @ Blessing Home

When people say ‘Money makes the world go round’, I would say, ‘Love and determination makes the world come round‘. I hope one day, people will come round and realize that every creature big and small deserves respect and love.

I hope to continue blessing poor people and animals. With the effort of Jeffrey, Mei Mei and Lah Lah, I will make time to help in the sterilization of strays and also to help the poor. Let us continue to bless and be blessed in Blessing Home.

Love,

Phyllis
